A typical line reads something like 19x9.5 ET35, 5x120, 72.6 CB, 690 kg. Every one of those values has to agree with your car.
Diameter and width: will the tire and brakes fit?
Diameter (the "19" in 19x9.5) is the wheel's size in inches and must match your tire's diameter and clear your brake calipers. Width (the "9.5") is measured between the bead seats and sets which tire sizes will mount correctly. Each tire size has an approved rim width range, so match the width to the tire you plan to run. Offset (ET): will the wheel sit right and clear the fender?
Offset is the distance in millimeters from the wheel's mounting face to its centerline, written as "ET" (from the German Einpresstiefe). Positive offset (ET35) tucks the wheel inward toward the suspension; a lower or negative offset pushes it outward toward the fender for a wider stance. Offset is the number most likely to cause rubbing if it is wrong, too low and the tire hits the fender, too high and it fouls the strut or brake. Bolt pattern and center bore: will it actually bolt to the hub?
These two numbers are pass/fail, they either match your car or the wheel will not mount safely.
- Bolt pattern (also called PCD, e.g. 5x120) is the number of lug holes and the diameter in millimeters of the circle through their centers. A 5x120 wheel has five lugs on a 120 mm circle, and it must match your car exactly.

Load rating: is the wheel strong enough for your car?
The load rating is the maximum weight each wheel is engineered to carry, usually stated in kilograms or pounds. It should meet or exceed the heaviest corner weight of your vehicle, with margin for potholes and track use.
